Girl Brings Girlfriend Home, Discovers They Might Be Half-Sisters

They watched each other from across the table before their eyes trailed down to the DNA results. Their hearts were pounding in their chests, and they were on the brink of tears. They were trying their best to compose themselves, but this was the most stressful thing they’d ever done.

Everything came down to this very moment. But just before they opened the envelope, one of them spoke up, asking, "If the results are positive, would it be wrong to stay together?"

Two Years

Living together in New York, Kristy and Aisling had been together for two years before it all came crashing down around them. For those two years, everything had been perfect, from their professional and academic lives to their day-to-day routines, everything was fine at first.

The entire situation stemmed from one random, joke comment on one of their social media accounts. No one knew how much pain this comment would cause the two girls.

A Chance Meeting

They met in their final year of college. It was a chance meeting, since they were from entirely different academic and social backgrounds.

You see, Kristy was an art history major, and Aisling was studying engineering. But despite that, the two happened to cross paths, which then resulted in the happiest two years of both their lives.

A Budding Relationship

They met at a local orphanage close to their college. Their respective schools, along with a few other faculties, came together to run a charity for the orphanage.

The two girls were among the students chosen to attend the event, and when they agreed to go, they had no idea what was in store for them. On that day, Kristy gave Aisling a harmless compliment that started their beautiful relationship. But they had no idea what storm would hit them two years later.

Happier Than Ever

Twenty-four months later, they were still together. Their love for each other was stronger than ever, and their relationship still felt fresh and light.

But one day, they decided to do something that seemed harmless and cute at the time, not knowing that it would change their lives forever. This decision would leave them distraught and questioning the validity of their feelings for each other.

Joint Instagram Account

The day that changed everything started just like any other. Kristy and Aisling decided that it would be fun to make a joint Instagram account for their family and friends to follow, seeing as they’d just adopted the cutest German Shepherd together.

They began posting pictures of their new pet, along with a few photos of the two of them, hoping to immortalize those memories forever. But they never expected one comment to change everything.

An Innocent Comment

The comment was innocent. It simply read: "You two look identical."This made Kristy smile, she never even considered that they looked alike.

But after this one comment, they started seeing more and more similar comments.  "You do look exactly the same," one read. "Take a DNA test. We are scared for you two," another read.  It was at this point that the dread and anxiety set in.

Speaking About It

Kristy told her girlfriend about the comments, and Aisling laughed about it at first. But she soon went silent when she started noticing how similar they really looked.

They then began talking about everything, digging into their family histories in an attempt to get some answers and to put their nerves at ease. But what they were about to uncover would leave them running to get DNA tests done.

Confirming Stories

"Both of us were raised by single moms. We didn't know that our moms had a relationship with the same guy around the time each of us was born." Kristy cried as she spoke into the camera.

They called their moms to confirm the stories they had grown up with. This was how they learned that their moms both had serious relationships with the same man, one year apart. Their stomachs twisted into tight knots when they realized that they could be half-sisters.

Dong What The Had To

Kristy and Aisling did what they had to. They had DNA tests done at their earliest convenience. But in the meantime, the post that started it all had gone viral, which brought in more views concerning their predicament.

One person wrote, "Being related could explain why you two look like sisters.” Another stated, “Everything is identical, from the shape of your eyes, lips, and even chins." Another user said, "I just saw some of your photos and videos, and I think you should get those tests done immediately," But what would they do if the results were positive?

The Waiting Game

The next few days became a blur for Kristy and Aisling as they awaited their results via physical mail. "We could've done it through email," said Aisling. "But we feared what those tests would tell us. We didn't want this to end."

Regardless of how long they tried to stall, the results still reached their front door. Before the two knew it, they were sitting on opposite ends of their dining table, ready to face this nightmare.

Kristy reached over and pecked Aisling's forehead. But before they unwrapped the envelope, Aisling asked, "If the results are positive, would it be wrong to stay together?"

Kristy smiled, squeezing her partner's hands before they both ripped the envelope's seal. They pulled out the results, and Kristy cried as every muscle in her body spasmed.

The Answer

"We're not related," Aisling stammered in disbelief. She reread the paper, pulling it closer to her eyes to ensure she didn't miss anything.

But the answer was clear before her eyes. She and the love of her life were not related in any way despite their moms having a relationship with the same man some decades back. Kristy and Aisling couldn't believe it.

Sharing The News

"We opened a bottle to celebrate that evening!" Aisling shared. They also posted selected parts of the DNA results on Instagram, finally updating their growing fanbase on the gutwrenching situation.

But although they'd cleared the air over the matter, the great question still loomed over their heads. This time, they would ask their fans the same: "If we're related, is it wrong to stay together?"

Yeses And Nos

The answers ranged from simple yeses and nos to more complex responses that brought morality and genetics into the picture. One user wrote, "I wouldn't but if the love is real and this is something you can look past, then work for it." Another said, "You can't procreate, so where's the harm?" while another wrote, "It would be very wrong."

One would think that something like this doesn’t happen very often. However, another couple faced a similar situation, with an entirely different outcome.
