Grow a Clover Lawn That You Barely Have to Mow

Johan Brown

Everyone knows how awful grass lawns are if you have them at home. The grass is delicate, erratic, and costly to maintain. In addition to being a pain to maintain, lawns waste your time and resources and are essentially ecological catastrophes in terms of water usage and the loss of natural ecosystems.

This is the reason why there is a simmering uprising against grass lawns. Clover lawns have recently gained popularity as an alternative to typical grass lawns on social media.

The 300 species of clover are blooming legumes that are extremely invasive, making them the adversary of most lawn enthusiasts. White clover was a common component of most lawns in the early 20th century.

It wasn't until the development of powerful chemicals that the ideal lawn changed to the turf grass you see regularly. For many excellent reasons, clover, as a plant, is now making a big comeback.

Compared to grass, it is much better for the environment. Clover is a hardy plant. Because it is a legume, it absorbs nitrogen and other nutrients into the soil, so you don't need to worry about fertilizing it as you would with a lawn made of grass.

A lot of people have found that mixing clover in their regular lawn helps their grass. You'll observe yellow spots fading as the clover helps your grass recover. It also consumes a great deal less water.

Are There Downsides?

When you think of all the spare time you have on the weekends that aren't being used to manage an environmentally harmful grass lawn,  there must be drawbacks to take into account.

A clover lawn's biggest drawback is its fragility. Whatever you may think of grass, it will always come back to life if you stroll on it, lunch on it, or play sports with your family on it. If there is a significant amount of activity on your clover lawn, you will see dry places since clover is less resilient to foot movement.
